Follow the Race: Pan Celtic Race 2022

The 10th of July 2022 sees the start of the third edition of the Pan Celtic Race. With varied annual routes taking in the six Celtic nations; Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, Cornwall and Brittany, the race makes full advantage of the spectacular scenery found in the UK and Northern France, which each Celtic nation offering a unique flavour and character to the event.⁠

We've been proud to support the race from it's beginning, and we're continuing that support this year.

Mike Drummond

A good friend of Restrap and lover of all things gravel, Mike will be taking on this year's Pan Celtic Race for the first time. You may know Mike from his work with ADVNTR.cc and Komoot. He's no stranger to long distance riding, having spend most of this year already cycling huge distances around the UK.

Duncan and Sam Stewart-Ball

Father-son pair Sam and Duncan are back for a second go at the race in 2022. Last year they completed the 900mi short route within 10 days, an amazing achievement for 13 year old (at the time) Sam. Sam has been smashing it in cyclocross races over the last year, so looks set to finish in a great time again this year.

Rupert Hartley

Albion Cycling's Rupert is normally covering the race as a photographer, but this year Rupert will be taking the start line and giving it a go himself. Rupert doesn't tend to hang about when on the bike, so be sure to keep an eye on his dot.

The Route:

With the 2021 edition of the race being restricted to Britain due to covid restrictions, this year's race sees Ireland stand as the main venue. Riders will be riding along the west coast or Ireland, and finishing off with a short sprint across Anglesey to finish.

The rolling terrain should serve to break up the field, and the ferries at Pembroke – Rosslare, Tarbet and Dublin – Holyhead should add a further tactical element to keep riders on their toes.
